    Greetings to everyone from Oklahoma!

By day, I work as an accountant for a not for profit medical research company that studies and treats diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus, Alzheimer’s and Cancer.

Music though, is a true love and passion for me, both hearing and playing so I’m very excited to improve skills, techniques and build a jazz foundation.
I played the flute throughout school and picked it back up during pandemic. I’ve only ever played traditional, classical or pretty standard music and have never done jazz or improvisation. This is extremely new for me and feel like my learning curve is progressing at a snails pace. I’m chipping away on confirmation but doing it slowly, line by line. I’m so impressed to see all the talent in here and hope to learn any tips and tricks of the trade suggested!

An ambition/goal of mine is to master Jethro Tull’s Cross-Eyed Mary and Bouree. Ian Anderson has such a unique sound and technique.

I also encourage anyone to see Steve play live, if you have the opportunity. Probably goes without saying in here but, wow-he’s got the chops and is a real treat to see in person.

    ❤️

    Hey Chrissy!

Thanks for dropping a line here. While this area is a bit of a ghost town at the moment I see that changing in the near future when I create some things designed for users to participate in this section more.

There’s not enough jazz flute players in the world – you are very welcome here! I think you’ll find that playing through the exercises in each unit will provide you with some different perspectives on improvisation. One of the common misconceptions about improvisation is that it is completely made up. A lot of what people are doing when improvising is preconceived!

If I could make one suggestion: Start with the most recent unit (in this case the ‘Stella By Starlight’ Unit) as that will be the one emphasized throughout the month. From there, go back and have a look at other tunes that might interest you. If Confirmation is calling you, by all means have at it!

I’m going to have to check out that Jethro Tull/Ian Anderson Solo. I love hearing about things that inspire and I’m sure others will too when they learn about it. Linking the songs below:
