    This is so insightful! I think the frustration absolutely comes from the inability to play what you practice and part of this is because what we practice begins in our conscious mind. How do we get it to the subconscious quickly though? I think the answer is to be sure to include the subconscious as part of the practice routine.
    I always make sure to take 10 minutes at the end of the practice session just to go back to the things I am already familiar with. While improvising over a tune, I will watch the familiar finger patterns happen. Listen to yourself play that same idea that you’ve played a million times on a ii V. This gives your mind time to digest this information and incorporate the new information with the old. As long as you are in the process of trying to program new things as a part of your practice session in conjunction with exercising your subconcious, this will always be the path to improvement.
    The process is ongoing, and each day you will change slightly. If you carry on day after day though, improvement is inevitable. It is a beautiful thing!
