I’ve been listening to Chick Corea’s ‘Now He Sings, Now He Sobs’ Trio record. I am obsessed with the precision of playing on there as well as the sound of Roy Haynes’ drums. I can hear the influence this record has had on a lot of modern players and rhythm sections. Many drummers have copied Roy’s sound (the same way many saxophone players have copied Joe Henderson or John Coltrane)! I used to hear drummers play like he is on this record and think that it was copying Jack DeJohnette but am realizing how unique of a drummer Roy Haynes is on this record.
